Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, "Open Circuits," 2021
The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba is launching Open Circuits, a community-driven initiative focusing on Digital Arts in southwestern Manitoba.
The official inaugural event of this platform will take place from December 21st to 23rd as an Instagram Takeover, where the public will get to know local digital artists who will be sharing their journeys, experiences, and portfolios.
Open Circuits is a new iteration of past AGSM initiatives that sought to stimulate the region's digital arts literacy and creative work. This project will pursue experienced, emerging, and inquisitive individuals involved in digital arts to support the growth of the industry. A collective structure committed to resource-sharing will manifest as an egalitarian platform where participants can share and seek knowledge from others in an ongoing offering.
"This is an exciting opportunity to explore all of the tools that are available to digital artists in a really collaborative way," says AGSM Digital Projects Coordinator Ana Camelo, who is spearheading Open Circuits. "It's a chance to address the lack of professional opportunities in the region, which can push graduates away."
This project proposes a non-traditional approach to the arts scene by prioritising equal representation of historically marginalised individuals and expanding digital artists' participation beyond Brandon, contributing to its growth and development throughout the region. The event is hosted on the new AGSM's Digital Hub Instagram account, where anyone interested in participating or attending can contact the project and learn more: @agsm_digitalhub (https://www.instagram.com/agsm_digitalhub/)
