Oracular Objects features artwork from local artist Greg Hanec. Hanec has dabbled with painting his whole adult life. By the late 1990's it became a serious pursuit, with a rigorous investigation into creating styles to express his unique voice. Hanec refers to past schools and techniques that he has admired, employing four different techniques in his abstraction: Pouring, scraping, geometric, and surface material application. Hanec touches on multiple ways to express his ideas, and further develops techniques in which to achieve those ideas. Oracular Objects present these techniques in various sizes and shapes on canvas, board, aluminum, and paper. Each of these surfaces necessitating a rethinking of the medium's reaction. Hanec displays a wide range of emotions, designs, and discoveries to behold.
Hanec has presented his work in the past at Graffiti Gallery in one solo show, and numerous groups show from 2006 to 2019. As well he has had solo exhibitions at Blankstein Gallery, and at Tumble Contemporary Art Gallery, both situated in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Hanec is also a musician, composer, sculptor, photographer, filmmaker, performance artist, and writer who cherishes these mediums to further expand his expressive possibilities. He has been the curator of the space)doxa series at Graffiti Gallery, which showcases experimental music, performance art, and expanded cinema since 2004.
