Get ready for Manitoba’s first major showcase of work by Pablo Picasso in decades. This summer, the WAG presents Picasso in Canada and Picasso: Man and Beast, two exhibitions highlighting the many sides of Picasso, the most well known artist in the history of Western art.
Picasso in Canada brings together 30 artworks by the artist, including paintings, watercolours, drawings, prints, and ceramic works. Drawn from art museums across Canada, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), the exhibition offers an intimate view of the artists through the work in Canadian collections. Featured here will be Femme Assise (Seated Woman) the most important painting by Picasso in Canada, now in the collection of the AGO. In addition to representing over five decades of Picasso's artistic production through a range of media, this exhibition features iconic images of five of Picasso’s lovers.
