Opening Reception and artist talk: Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 7:00pm
Local artist, Faye Hildebrand is a graduate of the University of Manitoba, and holds degrees in Fine Arts, Arts and in Education. During her studies she had many influences including fellow students, but especially, instructors and professors, such as Ivan Eyre, Tom Scott, George Swinton, Paul Reichart and the many others in Anthropology, Geography, Sociology, English and Education Faculties and Departments.
Faye followed the path of an educator and taught at the Senior High Level, first in Eriksdale then in Teulon. She was fortunate to be able to take on the teaching of art courses and programs as part of her teaching load. Faye finds that the best part of this experience was the students, whose energy, enthusiasm and creativity were inspiring.
While raising her children as a stay-at-home Mom, Faye was able to pursue her first love of painting and sculpture. She also volunteered her skills to several community organizations and events. Faye was able to explore large canvases and a variety of subjects and mediums including soft pastels, watercolour, oils, wax resist.
In 1988, Faye was the recipient of a Manitoba Arts Council Grant and held her first Solo Exhibition at the Portage Arts Gallery. This exhibition was displayed in various galleries in Manitoba. Faye has shown her work in juried art shows in the Interlake and Northern regions of Manitoba. Faye was selected to be one of the jurors for a juried art show in 1992.
Moving from Brandon to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, in 2009, Faye was able to resume painting, this time using acrylics. Her exhibition, Prairie Mountains, is primarily acrylic paintings that show the vast prairie landscape and the beautiful and vigorous weather systems that envelop us. Also included in this exhibit are several of her pencil drawings that she completed prior to moving to Brandon, Manitoba.
