Faith B. Logan, “Crinoids,” 2021
Opening reception: Saturday, March 5, 1:00-3:00 pm.
Prehistorically, an inland sea teeming with aquatic life covered the prairie provinces. As a lifelong dweller in a landlocked province, bodies of water have always unsettled me, the dark water stirring up both fear and fascination. This desire to portray the aquatic creates dissonance between my subject matter and the place I am from. To reconcile this I have been developing inks and pigments that I distil from my environment. Once bottled, these foraged inks continue to evolve, reacting to the support they are applied to and each other. Harnessing these interactions in site-responsive installations imbues the space with science and alchemy, an environment that bridges the prehistoric with the present day.
Faith B. Logan (she/her) uses paper, ink, craft knives, and printmaking techniques to explore memory, prehistoria, mythology, coral reefs, defence mechanisms, bioluminescence, and the unknown. She desires to bring the mysteries of our oceans to the surface, discover the aliens of our planet, and to fill unexpected spaces with the beauty of the natural world.
