Rick Gillis: The Age of Man

This collection of work by Lethbridge artist, Rick Gillis, invites viewers to contemplate their social and physical environment, including their personal histories, moral ironies and the foundations of their beliefs. Though largely allegorical in nature, the messages in the individual pieces are often hidden in fanciful and mischievous imagery, allowing for a range of viewer interpretations. “The Age Of Man” includes a collection of larger paintings ranging from sentimental memories to darker, metaphorical imagery. Additionally, two museum-styled showcases include assemblage works that reflect the artist’s fascination with re-creating the detritus of our past into meaningful, contemporary social commentary.
