Rocio Graham, "Flower making, My Garden's Funeral"

Please join us at Gallery 2 on Sunday, October 23 from 1 pm to 3 pm for My Garden’s Funeral.

Inspired by the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), the Mexican celebration of the dead, visual artist Rocio Graham has prepared a funeral for her garden that honours and remembers loved ones that have passed away. My Garden’s Funeral honours the season's changes when nature goes dormant to renew itself and return back in the spring. This year we have special guests joining this community event full of colour, celebration, and meaning. Mexican migrant workers from local farms will be in attendance sharing their own stories and memories and celebrating the day of the dead in their natal Mexico.

Everyone is invited to bring flowers and photos of loved ones to celebrate their lives in the community. This event will be introspective, personal, celebratory, and of course, full of Mexican treats. As the Mexicans say, there cannot be a funeral without food!
