Rose, Dear is a solo-exhibition by Calgary-based artist Nicole Kelly Westman. Westman layers landscape and regional historic narrative; investigating the once thriving coal-mining community of Wayne where all that remains is the Rosedeer Hotel. Included in the exhibition is a nonlinear film, filmed on location in Wayne. Comprised of various capturing techniques (super eight, illustrated animation, slide film, and digital footage) the film follows powerful female protagonist characters against the desolate winter landscape of the Alberta Badlands.
