Sam Blanchard, "this used to be easier," 2009. A video of the artist attempting to jog is projected onto the wall; the projector itself is mounted to a track and moves to keep pace with the tired artist. 6'x18'x6'.

The New Gallery will be presenting a solo exhibition by Sam Blanchard (USA) from September 6 to October 5, 2013. Titled Older & Overwhelmed, Sam's work explores "[n]ormal everyday rituals such as the morning commute, doing paperwork, or waiting in line". He notes that "it’s this obscurity along with the naive approach of the antagonist to these situations that often lends a humorous tone to my work." His exhibition at The New Gallery will consist of three new works that examine the degradation of ability (physically, mentally, and emotionally) that comes with aging.
