SAY MY NAME // CURATED BY JUSTIN WADDELL // INTERSITE 2015
to
Multiple venues, see description Calgary, Alberta
Artists: Victoria Braun, Julia Kansas, Jodie Rose, Ted Stenson. Curated by Justin Waddell.
"Say My Name" is an exhibition about active listening as well as the ability to recognize the difficult and potentially conflicting feelings that may arise. Although the narrative of the Destiny’s Child song progresses into a confrontational demand, the intent of this request to speak is to listen and ultimately to want to find something in another.
"Say My Name" is a desire to reflect on the communal spirit of Intersite Visual Arts Festival's call to have, “artists unite.” Although it may not align with popular appearances of revolutionary acts (evoking visions of public protest, action, and demonstrations) the presence required for deep listening, connection, and a sense of personal security while being vulnerable to the collective is, in a lot of ways, revolutionary.
"Say My Name" will consist of a limited number of artist’s multiples, a podcast series with CJSW 90.9 FM, and a launch party at Good Luck Bar. The artists are encouraged to speak candidly about the influences on their work, life, and love as well as to invite other participants into the conversation.
