In the spirit of Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation, the AGA brings together work from the collection to celebrate the majesty of this nation’s terrain—from one side of the country to other, in each of the seasons and all of their colours.

Since the 17^th century, painters have moved landscapes out of the background of art and into a dominant position of popularity. Appreciated as worthy subjects, nature and our human relationship to it are settled into the forefront of artistic imagination. Whatever the season, wherever the scene, the landscape inspires the work of Canada’s greatest painters. Season to Season, Coast to Coast showcases landscape paintings from the 19^th century to present day, featuring works by Canadian painters including Emily Carr, Dorothy Knowles, Cornelius Krieghoff, John McKee, Tom Thomson, Horatio Walker and Sylvain Voyer. The influence of Dutch, British and French modern landscape traditions are seen in depictions of Pacific rainforests, Rocky Mountains, prairie fields and Atlantic shores, bringing the history of landscape painting to light through a Canadian lens.
