The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to announce a new commission by Okanagan artist Sheldon Pierre Louis. Louis will be creating a large-scale painting on canvas that draws inspiration from his ancestral roots, building on his existing multidisciplinary art practice in painting, drawing, carving, and sculpting.
Sheldon Pierre Louis, a member of the syilx Nation, is part of the Re-Think 150: Indigenous Truth Collective—a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous allies working to educate society on Indigenous and environmental issues. Louis has previously exhibited at the Kelowna Art Gallery, Enowkin Centre, Lake Country Gallery, Arts Council of the Central Okanagan, The Rotary Centre for the Arts, Gallery Vertigo, and Vernon Public Art Gallery. His work is held in private collections across the globe, including in Australia and New Zealand. As a muralist, he has participated in the Nelson International Mural Festival, created pieces in Downtown Kelowna, Central and Southern Okanagan Schools, as well within the communities of the Okanagan Nation.
