For more than half a century photography has been my love and my livelihood, my passion and my pastime. And now, well into my retirement, I have lost none of the compulsion to take photographs and to share my work and my years of experience as a professional photographer.
A few years ago I’d come to realise that as much as I liked rural living, I missed the excitement of my previous career as a fashion photographer and launched myself into shooting portraits of my very colourful fellow islanders. When approaching a subject I look for the beauty, when I find it I find inspiration. Then I let my emotions and my subconscious take over.
The centrepiece of the current collection is a series of photographs I took of my Fulford Valley neighbour, wearing hippie outfits she still had stashed in a couple of old trunks from her time in London in the swinging Sixties and Seventies. These portraits hopefully capture the essence of this lady who has lived an eclectic life and is still full of fun and boundless energy. Several of her outfits will be displayed alongside the portraits.
Artist Talk: Sunday, July 14 | 2-3pm
