Silk Splendour: Textiles of Late Imperial China (1644 - 1911)
to
Art Gallery of Greater Victoria 1040 Moss Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8V 4P1
Manchu era court life comes alive in this exhibition of exquisite embroidered silk garments reflecting the pomp and ceremony of China’s last imperial dynasty. Curated by Barry Till.
The Art Gallery recently received a large donation of superb quality Chinese costumes from an American donor Helen Jahnke through the Council for Canadian American Relations.
As well the Art Gallery just purchased an informal robe once worn by the Last Empress of China. Empress Wan Rang (1906-46), married the last emperor in 1922 when she was 17. The actress, Joan Chen, played her in the movie – The Last Emperor.
