David Shkolny, "MacTaggart Sanctuary," 2022
pastel, 9" x 12"
Riverlands is pleased to welcome David Shkolny to Red Deer for a month long exhibition of his pastel paintings, a medium he finds endlessly fascinating. This group of works is a taste of his Alberta landscapes. He is an Edmonton-based artist specializing in soft pastel.
Opening Reception on Friday, March 4 from 5:30 - 8:30 pm.
David feels he’s hitting all cylinders when there’s a co-mingling of the representative aspects of his paintings combined with an abstraction that comes about during the process of creating. Growing up on the prairies makes the senses work a bit harder to uncover some of the subtler colour relationships latent in the landscape.
David will return on Saturday, March 19, 2022 for a one-day workshop. Cost to attend is $80/person. Contact clgilchrist@shaw.ca to register.
Born in Pinawa, Manitoba, in 1969, David has spent most of his life in Alberta. David's art is collected internationally and is also represented in The Canada Council. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1992.
