States of Collapse, a new exhibition at Dunlop Art Gallery, features 15 Canadian and international artists who explore the complexity of global catastrophe. Originally developed in 2019, the curators of the exhibition did not foresee the pandemic, but the exhibition coincidently echoes lived experiences endured by the global community. The work in States of Collapse ultimately reflects on our response to a radical change to the world as we know it and challenges us to collectively consider our impact on global well-being.
“We are very pleased to present this large group exhibition, which presents a range of perspectives on very complex issues,” Wendy Peart, Curator of Education and Community Outreach at Dunlop Art Gallery explains. “This is an extremely timely exhibition, and we hope to not only add to pressing conversations, but to remind ourselves to take care of ourselves, each other, and our planet.”
The exhibition was curated by Tomas Jonsson, Curator of Performance and Moving Image; Wendy Peart, Curator of Education and Community Outreach; Amber Christensen, Department Head, Central Library; and Stacey Fayant, Independent Curator. It will open at Dunlop Art Gallery, Sherwood Village Branch location on January 22 and at Dunlop Art Gallery, Central Library location on January 30.
