The Gardener
Gardening is a passion for many people, a way to create a sanctuary, grow food, or simply to make their living space a little greener. It is also a hobby that has gained popularity over the events of the past few years. This series is a celebration of the pastime, each miniature tool crafted in precious metals and fine woods to replicate their larger counterparts. Every piece in the collection is made using similar techniques to those used during construction of the full-size versions. The miniaturization of these tools allow them to become portable tokens of an enjoyed activity, and a fun conversation starter.
Our SPOTLIGHT exhibit highlights work by new Alberta Craft Council members and members producing experimental work.
Stephanie Elderfield is a goldsmith and contemporary jewellery artist based in Calgary, Alberta. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jewellery + Metals from the Alberta College of Art + Design (now Alberta University of the Arts) in 2014. She draws her inspiration from the natural world found exploring her home province. Stones, reactive metals, patinas, and mixtures of fine metals are used to bring depth and colour to her work, giving an illustrative look to the finished pieces.
