From Economics to Photography
"All my photographs are planned and each image has an accompanying story. It is not a matter of snapping an image and moving on, generally it takes days and sometimes years of going back to the same location to capture exactly what I want: the ideal colour, the perfect light, and stillness of the air.” - SF
Steven Friedman, a fine art photographer from Salt Spring Island, B.C., graduated from university with a degree in Economics. It wasn't until he found an SLR camera on Gatinueau Park's trails that he took his first photograph. His new found hobby quickly became his career and he established himself as a respected photographer. His work has been exhibited around the world in Los Angeles, San Diego, Hong Kong, Copenhagen, New York and London.Shooting with a Phase One XF camera, Steven travels to remote locations around the world with his wife Joni. They hike to inaccessible locations and wait for the perfect conditions with impossible patience. For some of Steven's tree series, he visited the same trees during autumn for eight consecutive years! Being a purist, Steven does not manipulate his images.
