The 5th annual Summer Arts Scene for Youth (SASFY) summer arts school workshops program takes place August 11-16, 2014 at the same ideal state-of-the-art location as well-known ARTWALK, namely at George Elliot Secondary School and Creekside Theatre, in the cultural heart of Lake Country, an 8 minute drive from the Kelowna International Airport.
The mandate of the SASFY Board is to recruit Okanagan excellence of passionate artists, teachers and performers who are keen to share their wealth of knowledge and experience with youth and give back to the community. SASFY provides a wonderful opportunity for local youth ages 8-16 as well as students from across Canada to participate in a unique inter-connection of the arts experience. SASFY has had students come from as far away as England, India and Mexico.
Each year, since the inaugural year of SASFY in 2010, the summer arts program has continued to grow and expand due to its dynamic and diverse variety of workshops. Last year, SASFY reached full capacity enrollment and all signs indicate that due to its popularity this year will be a repeat performance.
Over the course of the 6 day event, students are immersed in an enjoyable atmosphere of camaraderie, inspiration and creative electricity! As part of the culminating exhibition and showcase event, students take pride in sharing and displaying their individual talents. In addition, group workshop projects generate a lot of interest and appeal with lots of “heart & soul” artistic expression conveyed in artwork that are donated for the silent auction to support the fundraising initiative of the SASFY “Kids Helping Kids” Fund.
The August 2014 theme is “ARTS FUSION” and 15 amazing workshops are planned.
The following is a list covering the broad spectrum of creative arts disciplines that SASFY is excited to present this summer: creative photography, theatre, sand sculpting, fashion design, urban contemporary dance, quilling, fabric arts sculpture, ukulele & drawing, ancient Chinese knotting, culinary arts, media & tv, woodworking, painting & mixed media, voice/choral and world music drumming. SASFY is offering a 6 day top quality educational arts package deal that you can experience for less than $200.00 which includes all lunches and snacks.
A popular convenient “Ride the SASFY Bus” shuttle service is available from Kelowna & West Kelowna locations. For more information about SASFY, visit www.sasfy.ca, email info@sasfy.ca or contact Claudia Kargl, SASFY President & Artistic Director @ tel. 250-768-1404 or 250-718-9875.
