Suzan Marczak at the District Foyer

Suzan finds the natural world a constant source of wonder and inspiration. By exploring the wildness of the landscape, she celebrates the strength and fragility of human spirit, our fragile connection with the manufactured environment, and our ultimate reliance upon the forces which shape our world. Her paintings are an ode to the complexity and interdependence of life, with all of its unpredictability and change.

Her ceramic work is both functional and exploratory. The alchemy of the glaze and the firing process are the means by which she brings out the depth, subtleties, and beauty of the surface. She creates in rich colours and incorporates driftwood as handles for her decorative ware, pouring vessels, and baskets.

Suzan completed the Studio Art Program at Capilano University in 1999, and finished a BFA at Emily Carr University in 2002. Since then she has worked from her East Vancouver studio and enjoys numerous associations with art collectives around the Lower Mainland.
