This exhibition focuses on Tanabe's most important works in the medium of printmaking from 1980 to the 2000s. These handmade woodblock and lithographic prints highlight Tanabe's mastery of the medium. Takao Tanabe is one of Canada's most notable artists. His contribution to the arts in Canada (and abroad) is immeasurable. Over the last 70 years he has been at the forefront of arts in this country. Most famous for his expansive, contemplative paintings of the west coast he also has been highly influential as a printmaker. Tanabe is the recipient of the Order of Canada, Audain Lifetime Achievement award, Governor General's award in Visual Arts, Honorary doctorates and many other awards. His work, including editions of the prints in this exhibition, are in museums around the country.
