THE CENTRE FOR COMMUNICATION AND POETRY RESEARCH // ANNIE WONG // INTERSITE 2015
to
Calgary Central Library 800 3 Street SE, Calgary, Alberta T2G 2E7
November 3 - November 6
The Centre for Communication and Poetry Research is a pop-up drop-in research centre and collective-endurance performance. Telephony and poetry are intimidating media. Often associated with feelings of apprehension, anxiety, or anticipated boredom, they require an intense form of listening. “Getting to the message” through poetry is painful; while over the phone is just plain boring. The Centre for Communication and Poetry Research is interested in facing these challenges collectively to understand the underlying poetics of all communication: the feeling of someone else’s attentive presence, even if a stranger’s, even if electronic, even if brief. Over the course of the festival, the principal investigator (artist), Annie Wong, will be conducting telephone surveys about poems and invites the public to participate in her research though workshops and drop-in research hours.
Schedule:
Tuesday through Friday / 1:00-4:00PM
Drop-in Research Hours:
The Centre is open for drop-in discussions with the artist while she is generating more phone numbers, gathering poetry resources, or conducting phone calls. You are welcome to conduct research (make calls) with one-on-one guidance from the artist.
Tuesday through Thursday / 5:00 – 7:00PM
Workshop: Let’s Talk about Poetry Baby OR How to Talk about Poems to a Stranger Over the Phone.
