The Line Between brings together a collection of abstract painters, including guest artists Scott Bertram, Todd Lambeth and Sarah Gee Miller, with Gallery Jones represented artists Fiona Ackerman, Michael Batty, Sara Robichaud and Kevin Tolman. The exhibition explores the relationship between the hardline definition of space and what it is containing. The results of this interaction of counterpoints varies aesthetically, from Robichaud’s seeping paint on raw canvas like sea foam on a shoreline, to Miller’s geometric circuitry which can read as manifestations of an unknown system. Whatever the results of the relationship are, the act of making a line is a decision to delineate one thing from another. In these paintings, reading between the lines (or under, across, above and below) is precisely where the pleasure and purpose of these works reside.
