The Shop Show at Christine Klassen Gallery, March 6 to 29, 2014, will be CKG’s first group exhibition in the gallery’s new warehouse space on 50 Avenue S.E.
If you missed it, CKG is now located in Calgary’s Manchester Industrial Area, in one of the city’s largest commercial gallery spaces, which includes a copious amount of free parking.
“It was extraordinary to watch the transformation,” says gallery Directory, Christine Klassen of the warehouse’s reincarnation. “Everything came together in time for the gallery opening on February 6th, which, in itself, was amazing.”
Highlights of the new space include large industrial windows that bring in the natural light, 4 large ‘U’ shaped walls providing ample display space, and two salvaged metal doors closing off the back of the gallery (which will become a custom frame shop in the coming months. “Admittedly, the doors are a conversation piece in their own rite,” says Klassen.
Named as a tribute to the warehouse’s former life, The Shop Show will highlight works of photography, sculpture, painting, and printmaking by gallery artists including Karrie Arthurs, Daniel Barkley, France Jodoin, Tim Merrett, Ulrich Panzer, and Brad Woodfin.
