pastel on paper. Purchased 2014. Accession number 45996. National Gallery of Canada.
Known for his watercolour paintings, Gardner also works in oils and pastels. His art practice embraces the warmth of the moment, whether that moment is on a basketball court or under the stars. A maestro of the urban and natural landscape, Gardner documents the everyday happenings of masculinity, family, and friendship.
Tim Gardner: The Full Story will be the first retrospective and the largest exhibition of Gardner’s work, spanning 30 years and featuring approximately 100 artworks. Works in the show will be drawn from public and private collections from across North America, along with an important group of works from the artist’s private collection. Many of the works in the exhibition have not been shown publicly.
