The Kelowna Art Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of works by a Toronto-based artist in our permanent collection. Tony Scherman: Works on Paper will feature twelve pieces that form a representative sampling of Scherman’s work along his various themes, using paper as his support, from the years 1996 to 2004. Scherman’s work often features such recognizable items as food, animals, human faces, and flowers. The seemingly innocuous images depicted confront some of the darkest aspects of human nature and history. The pieces have been selected from a gift made by the artist to the permanent collection of the Kelowna Art Gallery in 2007.
Tony Scherman: Works on Paper will be on view at the Gallery from June 2 to July 29, 2012.
Tony Scherman: Works on Paper will be the first of two permanent collection exhibitions in 2012. Showcasing works from the permanent collection is part of the on-going effort to diversify the program of exhibitions at the Kelowna Art Gallery. The next exhibition of works from the permanent collection will be in the fall of 2012.
Tony Scherman is a senior Canadian artist who lives and works in Toronto. He has achieved an international reputation and exhibition record. His works on paper form a parallel practice to his paintings on canvas using oil and encaustic, and reflect his restless creative exploration of both his materials and themes.
