“So many books, so little time.”
― Frank Zappa
A member of the Canadian Bookbinders and Book Arts Guild, Tracy Leal has been a bookbinder for 20 years, beginning with courses taken at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and Dawson Room Print Shop at Dalhousie University. Her studies included a variety of bookbinding styles, repairs, and archival techniques.
For her solo exhibition of work from July 3rd to July 14th, the Westridge Gallery will be set up like an eclectic store with paintings on the walls, shelves of books, toys, jewellery, wands, and so much more! On Sunday, July 7th, you can meet Tracy at the Meet-the-Artist Reception from 1 to 3.
Tracy creates unique and beautiful books that are meant to be used by everyone - artist and children alike. Each book is a one-of-a-kind from the mono-printed covers to the specially designed end pages.
It is hardly surprising that during her 17 years as an elementary school librarian, Tracy had many opportunities to introduce bookbinding to students and teachers. She enjoys teaching adults and children basic bookbinding techniques to, as she says, ‘spread the joy and fulfillment that comes from making books.’
