Tyler Sures - "Family & Friends: Memories Lost & Found"
to
Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art 103-421 Cawston Ave, Rotary Centre for the Arts, Kelowna, British Columbia V1Y 6Z1
In Family & Friends: Memories Lost & Found, Tyler Sures uses his own life & family history to examine the rise of mass media & technology in our everyday lives. Being a direct result of the integration of technology into our households, family photographs share a interesting relationship with mass media. Sures articulates this relationship through the use of different materials including fabric, canvas & paint, drawing inspiration from the effects of deterioration on both our memories and the photographs themselves. His paintings, like faded or damaged photos, feature portraits with missing faces, colour spots, and other imperfections.
Tyler Sures has an MFA from the Utrecht School of Arts and Design and has exhibited throughout Canada and internationally, including shows at Gallery 115, Gallery 101 and Saw Galllery in Ottawa; Casco Gallery in Utrecht, Netherlands; Het Blauwe Huis (The Blue House) project in Amsterdam, and in the Grass Roots Initiative in Kelowna in 2010.
Family & Friends: Memories Lost & Found will be on display in the Window Gallery of the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art from December 14, 2012 to January 24, 2013.
Join us for this last opening reception of 2012 on Friday, December 14 at 7 pm. This event is free and open to the public.
