CVAG, "UNCOVER," 2019

UNCOVER presents the work of Anna Gustafson / Clea Minaker / Elizabeth Russell + Natalie Nickerson / Heather Passmore / Nadine Bariteau. This thematic convergent program considers the implications of concealing and revealing through a related Artist Residency, a Project Room – Independent Studio Practice, Community Make Art Workshops, artist talks + performance events, and an exhibition. 

The Comox Valley Art Gallery August/September 2019 Artist Residency of Clea Minaker and the Project Room – Independent Studio Practice of Nadine Bariteau precedes the exhibition. Their site responsive projects developed through their creative research will be presented in the exhibition UNCOVER September 28 – November 23, 2019 along with: Anna Gustafson’s The System Is Not Foolproof is ‘a multi-chapter project’ in which the nature of the artist’s work exposes the effects human behaviour on the land; ‘…the idea of apocalypse as the end of living under false pretence — a time where the Truth is unveiled’ is presented in the collaborative presentation of Elizabeth Russell + Natalie Nickerson; and Heather Passmore’s work Roman Charity “explores an under-examined motive for discomfort with breastfeeding – that is a powerful display of human interdependence.” 

On Saturday, September 28, 2019 the exhibition will commence with a day of events:

Two Community Make Art Workshops from 11AM – 1PM, led by Anna Gustafson and Nadine Bariteau, will precede the afternoon Art Opening / Artist Talk / Artist Performance / Reception 1PM – 5 PM.

The opening day’s events will offer the community an opportunity to engage with the artists through art making and dialogue about the work presented.
