Emergence
Under the advisement of internationally renowned artist Brian Jungen, regional artists including Emilie Mattson, Karl Mattson, and Adrienne Greyeyes have modified a Caterpillar Trencher used in the building of the Alaska Highway in 1942 into a public art sculpture. The sculpture, "Emergence," recognizes Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation, the 75th Anniversary of the Alaska Highway, and 118 years of the Treaty 8 Agreement and seeks to reflect the history of the Peace-Liard’s Indigenous and non-Indigenous people and to emblemize a community moving together toward a deeper under-standing of both.

The sculpture will be unveiled at its permanent location east of the Dawson Creek Art Gallery at the NAR Park on August 11th from 4-7 pm.
