The Burns Visual Art Society (BVAS) was formed in February 1979 by a group of artists facing eviction from the Burns Building. For 19 years the BVAS was located at the Neilson Building on 8th Avenue SW in Downtown Calgary. This registered, non-profit, cooperative society currently has two floors of studios at 828 – 24 Avenue SE. The current site was occupied in 2000 and renovated with the financial assistance of The Alberta Foundation for the Arts. The main purpose of the BVAS is to provide studio space at a reasonable cost to working visual artists.
