The Lyric Theatre has a long history. It was built in 1912 as a vaudeville theatre. Over time it was converted to a movie theatre and then a night club during the 1980s. After the last night club closed in 2003, the Theatre sat empty for two years. In 2005 a group of Swift Current residents saw the potential of the historic building, and decided it had sat empty long enough. The beauty, sturdy construction, and location of the theatre made it a perfect centerpiece for the city - a place for people to gather and share music, drama, art, and social interaction.
