The 1.2 hectare plaza was built in 1988 for the Olympic Winter Games as the site of the medal presentation ceremonies and now hosts many special events & festivals throughout the year. It is bordered by 8 Avenue, Macleod Trail and 7 Avenue, SE across from City Hall.
