Fifty-two artists from across Canada have been selected as finalists for the latest Salt Spring National Art Prize.
Nine awards, worth a total of $38,000, are on offer in the biennial contest, now in its third iteration. There were 1,200 submissions.
The winners will be announced in October. An exhibition by the finalists is open to the public on Salt Spring Island from Sept. 21 to Oct. 21.
The jury is David Balzer, former editor-in-chief of Canadian Art; Sandra Meigs, professor emeritus at the University of Victoria and a winner of the Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts; and cheyanne turions, curator of SFU Galleries in Vancouver.
