New federal support for Contemporary Calgary
The federal government will spend $30 million on renovations to Contemporary Calgary's new gallery in the city's former planetarium.
The City of Calgary recently invested $25 million in the $117-million project. Contemporary Calgary is seeking $30 million from the Alberta government and $32 million from the private sector.
The federal funding is contingent on support from Alberta's new Conservative government.
Contemporary Calgary commenced a long-term lease agreement for the planetarium, built in 1967, in July.
